Kayangan Lake

Kayangan Lake
Kayangan Lake, which is located at Coron Island, Northern Palawan is said to be the cleanest lake in the Philippines.  Sometimes called the Blue Lagoon, this freshwater lagoon is amidst sheer limestone cliffs.  This beautiful picture-perfect scenery can be seen after a walk up a mountain trail.
Located in Northern part of Palawan particularly in Coron is Kayangan Lake which is often times declared to be the cleanest lake in the Philippines. The lake which is surrounded by steep limestone cliffs is also referred to as the Blue Lagoon due to its striking resemblance to the lake in the movie of the same name.

The stunning picture perfect view of Lake Kayangan will be seen after a brief walk up a mountain trail. Watch your footing here as I found the stone steps to be a bit tricky and dangerous in spots and be prepared to sweat a bit on the way up as well. Not to worry though, once you arrive at the lake and take a swim, you will find the mixture of salt and fresh water very relieving to the body and well worth the effort to get there. If you come during the dry season, make sure you come early and plan for a lengthy swim.

If you are a proficient swimmer, you will want to spend several hours here exploring all corners of the lake or you may utilize the two available Bamboo Raft in the lake. It is advisable to start your boat trip to Coron Island a few hours early to make sure you have ample time here. Apart from sunscreen protection, be sure to bring mosquito repellent since there’s a lot of mosquitoes during my recent visit.

Normally, the tourist trips to the area begin around 9 AM from Coron town center, though I found a boatman who was willing to take me much earlier so I could have plenty of free time to visit different islands and beautiful beaches. Arriving early in the lake will give a magnificent photographic view without dozens of tourists all wearing red life jackets which definitely putting a bit of a damper on the scenery.
